Eggs
The production of eggs has an impact on our environment, partly due to greenhouse gas emissions. It is therefore important to make a conscious choice in which egg you buy. Are you crazy about eggs and living in the Netherlands? Choose eggs of Blije Kip, Eike, Kipster, Oerei, Rondeel, Yverde or Zorgeieren. These all have the quality label On the Way to PlanetProof. This makes them a better choice for nature, climate and animals. Curious about what the poultry farmers are doing to achieve this? Read on!
Poultry farmers provide:
- green energy;
- natural day and night rhythm;
- jungle soy in feed;
- fireproof stables;
- larger living spaces;
- and much more!
Healthy living environment
The health and welfare of chickens are just as important to On the Way to PlanetProof as the other themes. One way the farmers stimulate this is by creating a natural day and night rhythm, for example by having enclosures with daylight. These enclosures are larger than the pens of conventional laying hens. The maximum stocking density is 8 chickens per m2. The larger living space also allows a chicken to display its natural behavior, such as scratching the ground with both feet and picking treats off the ground.
Tasty & safe
That treat is in the form of bedding, for example. The chickens not only pick it up but can also take a dust bath in it. The chicken nests in a pile of shavings and by moving back and forth they clean their feathers.
Another requirement of the quality label is that the houses are fireproof. Certified poultry farmers, therefore, have an alarm system with notification to the fire department that is checked at least once every 5 years. There is also an alarm and calamity plan in place in case of a power failure and essential equipment such as ventilation.
Make a conscious choice and choose for On the Way to PlanetProof. Then you can enjoy an egg with a nicer feeling!
Sustainability rate up, environmental impact down
A poultry farm has an impact on our planet. To reduce that impact, the farmers of On the way to PlanetProof use as little energy as possible. The energy they use must be green. In addition, the companies emit less environmentally damaging substances by limiting the amount of raw protein in feed and by having the transport carried out by a sustainable company that has been awarded a Lean and Green award. These logistics companies have lower CO2 emissions.
The certificate holders also help to prevent deforestation. They do this by only using jungle-free soy in cattle feed.
