Growth for On the way to PlanetProof continues
Publication date: 18 March 2022SMK has announced the growth figures for the quality label On the Way to PlanetProof for plant products. These show that the quality label is experiencing an ongoing strong growth. Figures for dairy products will follow.
The top quality label1 has an integral approach, setting requirements for sustainability on 8 themes. On the way to PlanetProof is an open and independent standard that is accessible to all companies that wish to participate. On the way to PlanetProof is available for various sectors: arable farming, fruit and vegetables, floriculture, eggs, dairy, prepared and processed products and trade & retail. In addition, the quality label is active at national and international level.
Hectares abroad
The total number of hectares outside The Netherlands grew to 11,083 hectares in 2021. This is an 80% increase over the previous year. The largest increase in the cultivated area occurred in Germany, followed by Spain.

Increase in number of certificate holders
As of December 31, 2021, there are 1.973 certificate holders who are working on increased sustainability of their plant products based on the criteria of On the way to PlanetProof, including 148 trading companies. This represents a growth of 18% compared to 2020. In addition, 13 more companies are certified for preparing/processing of plant products.

Ambition
With On the way to PlanetProof, certificate holders are working towards the sustainability goals of the Climate Agreement and the worldwide Sustainable Development Goals in the areas of production and consumption, water and soil, landscape and biodiversity.
